Whole Foods are foods which come to the kitchen in the same form in which they were created. A whole foods diet includes consuming a variety of Whole Grains (brown rice, whole grain pasta, whole grain bread) , Starches (potato, sweet potato), Beans (black, pinto, cannellini, etc.), Vegetables and Fruits.
Nuts & Seeds are also Whole Foods although we buy them today in bulk, pre-shelled and easy to consume in too large quantities.
The WFPBD which has been extensively studied worldwide and which demonstrates scientific evidence toward supporting optimal health (cardiovascular, cancer prevention and survival, obesity, sustained weight loss & improvement for type 2 diabetes) includes consuming a combination of High Starch/Carbohydrates as the predominant/larger share of the plate with the addition of fresh leafy greens and colourful vegetables and fruits. No oil is added in cooking or dressings/sauces.
Populations which has been extensively studied for diet and lifestyle habits (Rural China, East Africa) who consume a Whole Food Plant Based Diet were found to have little to no cardiovascular disease, cancer and even though their carbohydrate consumption was much higher than western counterparts their average weight to body mass considerably less, in the healthy weight range.
Those healthy individuals who then migrated to North America and adopted a typical western diet rich in animal products such as meat and dairy (fat & protein), crowding out vegetable portions subsequently developed the same level of disease as their new resident populations.
Have we lost you already?
Is your mind screaming not for me!
We need oil for our brains!
Doesn't sound tasty!
or the very popular resounding...
If we don't eat meat, where do we get our protein!
In a single blog post post there's no way to take on all issues and support theories.
Several questions to ask of yourself when looking at how emotionally people respond to food choice selection especially when it loops within health and wellness:
Who profits from what you put on your dinner plate?
Did somebody hold a marketing meeting for any ingredient ?
Do food production companies profit from your health or your wallet?
The main reason a Whole Food Plant Based Diet is a best kept SECRET?
